Celebrity-themed meals are not a surprise anymore. In fact, McDonald's has been the ambassador of fast food collaborations with massive stars. Now, Burger King is making its celebrity meals to get the fans' attention.
Burger King’s Following The Trend
At first, McDonald’s collaborated with Travis Scott on a special fast food meal. Then, it got so popular that it sold out at every location, so the chain made one with J Balvin. Proving its success again and again, celebrity and food collaborations grew. The iconic BTS meal came with special merchandise, honoring the viral nature of the Korean pop band. As soon as it died down, McDonald's presented the Saweetie meal (which didn't make much sense). When we all thought that it's over, Burger King hopped onto the trend. It presented its own celebrity meals with special candidates. Not one, but three of them are coming out at once, including rapper Nelly, Brazilian pop star Anitta, and TikTok influencer-eboy Lil Huddy.
These three collaborations don’t feature any special items like McDonald’s BTS meals with Korean sauce. Instead, Burger King focuses on keeping it real, calling it the "Keep It Real Meals" series. “We invited celebs to get real with us by having them hand-select food from our Real menu to create meals that are worthy of their real names,” the brand stated in a press release sent to The Takeout. The whole idea is to base these meals on celebrities’ real names, well, to keep it real. Yet, there’s a downside. Not everyone knows that Nelly’s real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., or Lil Huddy is actually Cole Chase Hudson. So, will the promotion idea ensue? We’ll see.
Celebrity Meals Include…
So far, the idea seems interesting. The Cornell Haynes, Jr. (Nelly) Meal includes the classic flame-grilled Whopper topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo, and ketchup, served with small fries and a small Sprite. The Impossible™ Whopper with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard, served with small fries and a small Sprite is in the Larissa Machado (Anitta) Meal. Last but not least, the Chase Hudson (Lil Huddy) Meal is made of a Spicy Ch’King with cheese, served with four-piece mozzarella sticks and a 16-ounce chocolate shake.
Yet, that’s not all for Burger King. The “Keep It Real Meals” also touches on the brand’s new ban. It promised to ban 120 “artificial ingredients” from its food, hoping to make real food out of real ingredients. “We know our guests’ expectations are changing, and they want to make choices they can feel good about,” said Ellie Doty, Chief Marketing Officer, Burger King North America. “By banning these 120 ingredients from our food, we’re offering guests an easy choice – delicious food made with quality ingredients.” Although it sounds promising, the spokesperson said it started in 2015. The whole process of reformulating items is still not finished, with only 80 meeting the new standard. So, don't hope for vegan gluten- and sugar-free meals soon – this will never happen in the fast-food business.
Burger King’s celebrity meals are a great option for those who don’t like choosing from the menu. Furthermore, it’s an amazing change from McDonald’s.
