One of the best parts of going to a restaurant by yourself - or even with a friend! - is listening to the conversations at the nearby table. Well, if you frequently find yourself eavesdropping, you'll love this story! This woman could hear everything from the restaurant right next to her AirBnB. Why? Because the room's window opened right into a restaurant!
Opening A Hotel Room Window…
Imagine arriving at your holiday AirBnB in Times square only to discover that one of your windows was a one-way mirror. Not only that, but it also allowed you to watch people eating at a restaurant for hours and hours, with them never noticing you! Well, that's precisely what happened to one TikTok user! Soon after checking in to her AirBnB, Desiree Baker (@desireerosebaker on TikTok), found out that the window of her Manhattan rental opened right into an operating restaurant!
Baker took to the social media site on December 20, claiming that the pictures provided by the host of Cassa Times Square did not exactly match up with the results. "I pull up the shades, there's no buildings. We're in a restaurant," she said in the video. Afterward, she pulls up the room's curtains, revealing a couple enjoying a night out, right on the other side of the window. However, throughout the video, it does not seem as though the couple knows that she's there. Why? Well, the windows were set up just like one-way mirrors!
Taking a look at the official photos of Cassa Times Square and Tempura NY, it seems as though the hotel turned an outdoor patio space into a restaurant. As a result, Baker's room and window appear right in the corner of the dining room! However, things only became stranger from there...
This Restaurant Served Her
Afterward, Baker contacted her AirBnB hosts, asking them why her hotel room did not match the pictures. Then, she received a strange response: "Hi Desiree, apologies for taken [sic] some time to replay [sic] you, actually we were going to cancel your reservation as we had some room issues, however, we managed to be able to host you. I believe everything went and is going well during your stay and glad to know we were able to host you this time of year. Best wishes."
Thankfully, Baker found ways to have fun with it. During her stay, she went and visited the restaurant in question, Tempura NYC. While dining there, she tapped on her room's window, which her friend then opened and waved at her. The restaurant bartender even gave her a few shots of tequila! And afterward, Barker was able to return the glasses through her window! So not so bad after all.
After seeing Barker's TikTok, which went viral, AirBnB contacted her and refunded her stay. So it all worked out in the end!
