Do you have a favorite fudge recipe? Well, plan on replacing it! You can find one of the best recipes in the world on a tombstone in Logan, Utah’s Logan Cemetery. There, you can find the recipe for “Kay’s Fudge,” provided by Kathryn Andrews, better known as “Kay.” “She really loved people,” Janice Johnson, daughter of Kay, explained. “She would write poetry, and she would take fudge whenever people got together.”

Kathryn Andrews met her husband, Wade (seen above), at a church function in New York City and instantly fell in love. But, sadly, life split them up almost immediately. Kay moved from Utah to New York City to pursue fashion and design, and Wade had to return to Europe for his U.S. Air Force Captain title. Still, “she was crazy about him from the beginning,” Johnson recalled. Over the years, the two exchanged many letters.

Then, as soon as Wade completed his captain duties, the young man returned and proposed to Kay on the Utah Capitol steps in Salt Lake City. 18 days later, on December 18, 1944, they married! Before they passed away, Wade and Kay had five children together. But they wanted to give back even more. Johnson said that her mother kept Tootsie Rolls in her purse to give out to children. And, before she passed away in 2019, Kay figured out a way to give back one last time: placing her famous fudge recipe on her tombstone!

So what’s Kay’s special fudge recipe? Well, to make it, you’ll need chocolate, butter, milk, sugar, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. After melting the chocolate and butter on low heat, you stir in the milk and bring it all to a boil. Then add in the sugar, vanilla, and salt and cook on to the soft-ball stage. “The soft-ball stage refers to a specific temperature range when cooking sugar syrups, occurring between 235 and 245 F,” according to The Spruce Eats. Then, put the fudge on a marble slab, cool, beat, and enjoy! How simple! Well, except for finding a marble slab, who has one of those these days? Still, those who have made it say it’s worth it, calling it chocolaty, sweet, and slightly buttery.

Now, Kay’s Fudge has gone viral online, and her kids are sure she would love the social media and news attention she’s received thanks to her recipe. We certainly hope so!
