Never one to rest on their laurels, McDonald's has unveiled their first new Chicken McNuggets flavor in nearly 40 years!
New McNuggets Flavor
The United States just received new Spicy Chicken McNuggets and many are already dreading the day that McDonald's takes them away. Believe it or not, this will be the first time since 1983 that the company has released a new type of Chicken McNugget. Hopefully, McDonald's will earn the chicken bump they need with this new release. After all, over the past two years, the fast-food chicken game has become quite crowded.
Popeyes, for example, earned rave reviews and even lines for their new spicy chicken sandwich. The result? A whopping 24% increase in sales in just three months! Just a few months after Popeyes debuted new chicken dishes, so too did Chick-fil-A and KFC. “We recorded the highest average sales per store in the brand's history during a week in early May,” stated CEO of Yum Brands David Gibbs, which owns KFC.
Read on to discover exactly what McDonald's changed with their new Spicy Chicken McNuggets!
Spicy Chicken McNuggets: Seriously Spicy
So what's new about the Spicy Chicken McNuggets? Well they have a breaded tempura coating with cayenne and chili peppers, making them extra spicy. Not hot enough for you? Well, add the Mighty Hot Sauce! It’s made with crushed red pepper, spicy chilies, and garlic.
“Our customers have been asking for Spicy McNuggets for some time now,” commented Linda VanGosen, Vice President of Menu Innovation for McDonald's. The company truly hopes that the Spicy McNuggets will help with plummeting sales. Sadly, coronavirus saw sales drop by 30%, resulting in total net income dropping 68%. But its not just about improving sales, its also about keeping up with the Joneses.
Fast Food Rivalries
As stated, almost all fast food companies have made new chicken dishes to compete with one another. Most, except for Wendy's, who's gone with a notably different strategy. As of late, the Wendy's Twitter account has tried to make a name for itself by endlessly mocking McDonald's, Popeye's, and anyone else that releases new food items.
“Must have scraped up all of BKs leftovers and slapped mcprice tag on it,” Wendy's tweeted. These tweets seem to divide fast-food fans, but have not stopped them from going viral. Still, it does seems as though Wendy's is the sore loser on this one. People love the Spicy Chicken McNuggets so far, and don't want to see them vanish. Sadly, they will, as McDonald's has made it clear they are a limited time offer.
