Outback Steakhouse is a widely known restaurant chain throughout the United States. However, there's plenty about the company that even its biggest fans don't know. Read on to find out what you don't know about Outback Steakhouse...
In The Kitchen
It all starts in the kitchen. For instance, did you know that Outback Steakhouse heats its pasta dishes in the microwave? It's true! According to one employee, who took to Quora to reveal the truth, the restaurant just "nukes" pre-made pasta dishes. It's certainly not fine dining. Meanwhile, just a year or so ago, another employee went to Reddit to pull the band-aid off: if you order your steak well done, the kitchen will serve you a worse cut of meat.
"Honestly… yes," wrote the employee. "We sort steaks to cook all at the same temp, at the same time. So yeah you will get a crappier cut to cook at the same time as your super nice, rare cut."
It's not all bad news, however. Do you love Outback's incredibly decadent and rich dark brown loaf bread? Well, you don't have to go out for a big meal in order to enjoy it! Believe it or not, you can just go to your local location and buy a few loaves from the To-Go counter. Now, you can have Outback bread whenever you want!
Not From Down Under
Okay, so if you're from Australia or have ever been there, you might already know this little fact: when the founders created Outback Steakhouse, none of them had been to Australia. Four hospitality industry experts formed the company in Florida, thinking that an Australian theme would help differentiate their restaurant - and they were right!
Since then, Bloomin' Brands, which owns Outback Steakhouse, has not only grown to be publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, but the brand also owns and operates Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and Aussie Grill.
Political Ties
Interestingly, Outback also has some political ties that many do not talk about openly. For those who don't know, the parent company, Bloomin' Brands, made 93% of its political donations over the past few years to Republicans. They are hardly alone, however, as other restaurant chains, including Applebee's, Chick-fil-A, IHOP, and Wendy's, among others. Interestingly, though, Elizabeth Smith, the CEO of Bloomin' Brands, actually donated to Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016.
However you feel about Outbreak Steakhouse's secrets, there's really no doubt that their brown bread and Bloomin' Onions are delicious!
