Without a doubt, the 2020 election proved one of the most contentious and stressful ever. As a result, Google was able to see exactly what foods America turns to when they want to stress eat. The results may surprise you...
Trump Or Biden? More Like Booze or Fries!
While some remained undecided until entering the voting booth, one thing's for sure: Americans simply cannot live without certain foods. And, as always, Google Trends was there to make sense of all the data. As it turns out, there are a few food items that the United States turns to in the midst of stressful times. "Are you thinking about food, this #ElectionDay? You are not alone," the Google Trends Twitter captioned a graph.
So, where do Americans turn during stressful times? Well, early in election night, pizza, Chinese food, liquor stores, sushi, and Mexican food all contended for the top spot. However, as the night went on and things became more stressful and unclear, French fries shot up to the top of the list, with only "liquor stores near me" coming close to competing! Arizona, California, and Nevada really helped push French Fries into the number one spot, while Delaware, Maryland, and Tennessee helped booze stay in the game.
Soon enough, plenty of voters had something to say about the Google Trends data and stress eating in general...
Stress Eating In 2020
While many thought that the Google data made sense, many Twitter users could not believe some did not have their favorite fries spot, or liquor store, selected already. "How is it possible in the 11th month of 2020 to not know where the nearest liquor store is? Hell, to not be on an 'elaborate secret handshakes and nick-names' basis with the clerk?" user @mrshawnpthomas asked.
Meanwhile, other users found some hope in the information, knowing that they were not alone in their stress-eating. "I have reached the stress-eating-a-Milky Way-while-my-dog-looks-on stage of my election coverage intake," @CatherineZDC said.
Of course, others hoped that all the stress eating would soon come to an end. "I hope they decide this election soon. My stress eating is completely out of control. I could gain 10 pounds this week," @darthruden stated. After all, stress eating is not healthy. While chowing down on some French Fries or enjoying a few drinks is alright every once in a while, make sure to stop and seek help if things get out of control.
