When paparazzi noticed Prince William looking longingly into a KFC, they couldn't help but snap a pic. After all, its not very often that the Prince eats unhealthy like that. Now the brand has responded!
Curious Royal Visitor
A few weeks ago, while on an outing with his wife, Kate Middleton, in London, Prince William did something rather unexpected. In the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, he approached a KFC's windows and looked in at obviously shocked patrons and workers. It's not hard to see why everyone from paparazzi to those inside the KFC managed to snap a picture of the Prince!
Of course, when the photos emerged online, KFC U.K. could not help but poke a little fun at the entire incident. “William whispered quietly to himself; ‘Oh, I just can’t wait to be wing’” a spokesperson for KFC U.K. and Ireland stated on Twitter soon after. For those who don't know, this is a play on one of the songs from the Lion King. However, the brand did not stop there! “I’m sad I didn’t call him His Royal Thighness in the main tweet tbh,” the social media account continued.
Now, Prince William has turned into a meme, albeit a rather relatable one...
KFC Chicken Fans Unite
Within a matter of hours, the KFC U.K. tweets earned more than 500,000 retweets and others joined in with jokes of their own. One of the Twitter users compared the royal to "a little boy looking in a toy shop wishing for what is inside.”
Others believe that the Prince was pondering how to eat wings, ultimately deciding to go “with a knife and fork.” While Prince William has stated that he prefers Nando's to KFC, it seems he just loves chicken in general!
“Both he and Harry loved fried chicken; in fact, any chicken (including roasted chicken, which Harry cooked when he proposed to Meghan),” said chef to the Royals, Darren McGrady. He worked in the Buckingham Palace as the queen's head chef from 1982 to 1997, and then for the late Princess Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry. It's also possible that William simply felt a little nostalgic. Apparently, Princess Diana used to order KFC for her sons regularly.
