While the diamond business is in crisis, a lot more manufacturers turn to the lab-grown method. That said, they are being made from the craziest materials – just take a closer look at a diamond from ranch dressing!
Diamond From Ranch Dressing? Easy!
Diamond trade hasn’t been in the best state lately, and the new technology is letting businesses produce the shiny rocks in the lab. In fact, lab-grown diamonds made up six percent of diamond sales last year alone! In addition to upgrading the process based on effectivity, convenience, and speed, many diamonds are also made out of a vast variety of materials. For example, from salad dressing. Yes, you've read that right – someone created a real diamond from ranch dressing. And that was Hidden Valley itself! The first-ever gem of its kind, Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing diamond went through a long and tough process to become a reality. Yet, it didn't end the journey by simply existing. The lovely piece was then squeezed into a two-carat diamond ring.
HVR said that the ring is "a beautiful and timeless way for ranch lovers to show their love for each other and ranch." After all, it’s not the first time ranch dressing joins two people in a romantic relationship. In 2021, a couple used Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing during their proposal! "Last year, when one of our custom Valentine's Day bottles was used in a marriage proposal, we were inspired," Deb Crandall, the brand's marketing director, said in an announcement. "We saw a love of ranch become part of one of life's most beautiful moments. It made us wonder, how can we make this act of love even more memorable."
Hidden Valley’s Auction
We’ve settled that making a diamond from ranch dressing is odd but beautiful. How is it actually made, though? The Ranch Diamond, as Hidden Valley calls it, started its trip as Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning. The team heated it to 2,500 degrees then crushed it by 400 tons of pressure. The whole process took them five months. Afterward, the special, lab-produced diamond got polishing work done, then was set in 14K white bold band. Last but not least, the ring was finished with the engraving on the inside: "HVR LVR." Eventually, the diamond from ranch dressing was put up at the auction on eBay – right on time for the official Ranch Day!
The auction's opening bid was $310, and the process lasted until March 17. Surprisingly enough, this weird product from Hidden Valley reached a price of $12,550! The winning bidder should’ve already received their unique creation as HVR promised to send it before March 20, the National Proposal Day. They will also get it in a custom Hidden Valley Ranch ring box with a custom jewelry pouch. There’s one more bonus - all proceeds from the auction went to the charity Feeding America. Now, we’re just curious if the new owner would propose with the Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Ring (and if their partner says yes). Hopefully, that love story will have a happy ending!
So far, it's not the first, nor the last odd invention from Hidden Valley. In recent years, the company already came out with RanchNog, Ranch trick-or-treats, and giant inflatable ranch bottles.
