Are you a BTS fan? Well, time to head to McDonald's! This summer, the fast-food giant will collaborate with the Korean pop group, debuting a "BTS Meal." Read on to find out exactly what the meal contains...
McDonald’s Collabs Through The Years
Before we even get into the BTS Meal, you're probably wondering how it all came to be! Well, McDonald's has been pushing celebrity collaborations recently. It all started last year when the fast-food company paired with rapper Travis Scott on a Quarter Pounder meal. It was not just a reskinned Quarter Pounder, however. The burger also included bacon and barbecue sauce! The Scott Meal became one of the most popular McDonald's meals ever, so the collaborations continued! Next, rapper J. Balvin earned his own meal: Big Mac without the pickles, an Oreo McFlurry, and french fries with ketchup. Now, the company decided to cross the Pacific Ocean for the next celebrity collaboration!
In case you've lived under a rock for the past few years, BTS is one of the biggest bands in the world. In 2017, the Korean boy band first started rising to fame, largely thanks to Twitter. And their talent, of course! The very next year, they became the first K-Pop to earn the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100. Since then, the group has only grown more and more successful and famous. Of course, the BTS Meal at McDonald's is no exception to that! So, what's in the BTS meal, and what are the reviews? Let's take a look!
Huge BTS Meal Line
What's in the official BTS Meal? Well, it includes 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, a medium order of french fries, a medium Coke, and two new dipping sauces: Sweet Chili and Cajun. As the sauces are brand new for the meal, they are the "stars" of the meal, so to speak. Both the sauces have pretty interesting stories behind them. The Sweet Chili flavor, despite its name, has a real kick to it. In fact, many say that it's one of the hottest sauces in the fast-food game! The heat and flavor come from gochujang, a Korean chili paste, connecting the sauce back to BTS.
Meanwhile, the Cajun sauce is a bit of an American-Asian mix. Cajun flavors, originally from Louisiana, have become quite popular in Asian countries. As a result, one of the most popular sauces in Korea is a Cajun-inspired mustard. The Cajun sauce in the BTS meal is based on this mustard and has a "subtle sweetness and tang."
As you might suspect, the "BTS Army" could not wait for the meal. In fact, some McDonald's reported lines over an hour long - just for a fast food meal! Along with the BTS Meal, the band collaborated with the fast-food company on some new clothing. The new line features soft pastel colors – mostly purple, member Taehyung's favorite. Purchasable merchandise includes bathrobes, hoodies, and socks, covered in the restaurant and band logos. But don't expect them to last a long time. Like the meal, it's a limited-time offer!
