Among several other celebrities, Heidi Montag is outspoken about eating raw meat. Moreover, she was photographed with a piece of it on the streets. Is the raw meat diet safe, though? Let's bite into it.
Heidi Montag Seen Eating Raw Meat
Heidi Montag was seen eating raw meat on the street of Los Angeles – she pulled a raw bison heart out of a Ziploc bag and munched on the go. Why is the 35-year-old reality star obsessed with the idea of a raw meat diet? Montag and her husband Spencer Pratt think it’ll help them with conceiving a second baby. The celeb classified this trick as her new diet trend and interest. Moreover, she got into its anthropology, especially with what people must eat, according to the idea. "When you think about where the most nutrients are that are bio available to humans without toxins," she says, "organs are very nutritious parts of animals. Culturally, organs are a critical part. Eating raw liver is going to preserve as many nutrients as possible."
Thankfully, she agrees that there are risks tied to eating any raw meat, just like fish in sushi. "I just happen to like eating sushi-style organs,” The Hills: New Beginnings star commented. How did she stumble upon the idea? The celeb mom researched the carnivore diet and found Paul Saladino, MD, who inspired her to try eating raw. "I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year and a half, I'm willing to try different things," Montag said. Apart from her goal, the diet gave her more energy, increased libido, and chronic pain improvement. When it comes to the taste, Montag had to adjust – now, she's okay with eating raw liver and even bull's testicles.
What About Safety?
Of course, eating raw meat has its pros and cons. Many who have tried it noted that their quality of life improved, just like Montag claimed. They also felt to have more energy, easily nailed a lot of tasks daily and weekly. That said, people that struggle with different GI (gastrointestinal) issues stated that their digestion got better. Consistent visits to the bathroom and no stomach pains boosted their mood as well. Stamina, just like libido, grew for the raw meat-eaters. While eating raw meat has benefits, there are safety concerns regarding the diet.
When the meat comes uncooked, individuals are very prone to a foodborne illness. Simply said, you might get food poisoning after ingesting raw steak. Any food of that sort can transfer bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins to a human body – meat gets infected during slaughter. In case the process is not careful, animals' intestines get cut and spread potentially harmful pathogens. These pathogens include Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens, E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter, and so on. So, consumers who are interested in raw meat consumption have to be careful about their diet. Children, pregnant or nursing women, and the elderly shouldn’t try it at all! How can one be safer about meat? Choose a whole piece of meat instead of minced. Steaks or meat that’s ground in-house is the best for going raw.
Whether to try eating raw meat or stay with cooked steaks is an important choice. The evidence of health and nutritional benefits is terribly small compared to the risks.
