Mac and Cheese ice cream was a risky stunt. Yet, quirks like that became a staple for big brands nowadays. The vast list of weird flavor options include Flamin' Hot Mountain Dew, Pumpkin Spice Cup Noodles, and even Jelly Beans with taco taste. So, Kraft and Van Leeuwen’s Kraft Mac & Cheese Ice Cream wasn't the craziest one. It definitely stood out as the most delicious option on the menu, though! The first launch of 6,000 pints sold out in just an hour. Fans loved the new, unusual hint of cheese in classic ice cream. Even the second launch didn't produce enough for the impressionable audience. Since March 14, Walmart welcomed Mac and Cheese ice cream to its shelves nationwide.
"We knew Kraft Mac & Cheese would be a hit after tasting it, but we never expected it to be available in Walmart nationwide," Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder, and CEO of the namesake creamery, said. "Before creating it, we saw how fascinated smaller artisanal food producers, particularly chefs and restaurants in the US, were with nostalgic American food culture. This is a play on that, and now consumers will have easy access to it across the country." Emily Violett, senior associate brand manager for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, agreed with the CEO. "The combination of these two iconic comfort foods deliver a delicious and unforgettable experience and we're thrilled the ice cream has become a fan favorite," she said.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream
Apart from the already classic Mac and Cheese ice cream flavor, there are six more unusual tastes for consumers. If you still have no idea how the first one is, it's simply Mac & Cheese (without pasta). In fact, it's sweet, creamy, and cheesy. Planet Earth includes blue spirulina almond ice cream and pieces of matcha green tea cake. Pizza is another comforting flavor, with cream cheese and mozzarella ice cream joining a tomato jam swirl and basil crust cookies in an out-of-world mix. In case traditional is more to your taste, get a spoonful of Hot Honey. It’s a well-known vanilla ice cream with honeycomb and swirls of hot honey. There are two cakes, as well: Royal Wedding Cake with floral, lemon and cheese hints, and Wild Blueberry Shortcake, with blueberry swirl, vanilla, and pieces of shortcake.
Last but not least, Bourbon Cherries Jubilee. Vanilla ice cream with the sweetest swirls of bourbon cherry compote finishes the list. Why is it only coming out in Walmart? Ben Van Leeuwen decided that it would be the most available option. Van Leeuwen’s goal is to spread ice cream with good ingredients across the nation. “We have created a collection of classic flavors using thoughtfully sourced ingredients, from local jam makers to wild blueberries from Maine, to cookie bakers with a social mission," the co-founder said.
Walmart will carry the new flavors, including Mac and Cheese ice cream, for 10 weeks. Yet, Van Leeuwen promises to bring them back in summer.
