Most of us would feel anger if a burglar broke into our place of business. But not this restaurant owner - he had compassion and understanding! Now, he's offering a job to the man who broke into his grill!
Break-In At The Restaurant
Carl Wallace from Augusta, Georgia, didn't expect to arrive at his restaurant and see the glass door shattered. But that's precisely what happened at Diablo's Southwest Grill in Augusta. Somehow, when watching the footage of a man carrying some valuables out of the restaurant, Wallace did not feel anger. Instead, he wanted to help the thief. So, the owner decided to give him an honest way to make his money. "Our burritos are such a smash hit we've got people breaking in at 4 a.m. for their fix. So if ya see our door looking hurricane fabulous at Wheeler Rd this is why," Wallace wrote on Diablo's Facebook page. "To the would-be robber who is clearly struggling with life decisions or having money issues...please swing by for a job application. There are better opportunities out there than this path you've chosen. No police. no questions. Let's sit down and talk about how we could help you and fix the road you're on."
Wallace even decided to take it a step further and place his phone number on the page, making it easier for the criminal to get in touch. Later, he stated that the culprit only escaped with a few bucks. That's what made the owner realize the level of the man's desperation. He risked so much to break in, but only escape with a few dollars, barely enough to scrape together a meal.
Giving Burglar A Real Job
Of course, some felt that Wallace should not have extended the olive branch. However, most Facebook users loved the gesture, and so do we. Just take a look at the thousands of positive comments that his post received. Many even said they would now stop in for a burrito, all thanks to Wallace's good deed. "Wow, what a compassionate, humane move. Definitely making a note to drop in and grab a bite next time we're in Augusta," one user wrote. "I hate that this happened to you but your response was a perfect demonstration in humility that we all need. My family loves Diablos and we eat it often. This has cemented our support of your establishment. Prayers for everyone involved," wrote another.
Meanwhile, Wallace does not view himself as a hero or anything like that. He just says he's trying to make the world a better place one burrito, or person, at a time. "Instead of having the normal response of being angry, we decided to reach out, and say this is a bad career path that you're on, and we're willing to offer you a job if you're willing to change what you're doing in life. I can't fix the world, I can't save the world, but I can make a difference in one person's life," Wallace said. "So I took that approach … on this Easter weekend, to try to take the Godly approach to the situation."
