Of course, there are hundreds of strange auctions on eBay. However, this might be the most bizarre yet! All thanks to one puffy Doritos chip, an Australian teen has earned herself $20,000. That's right! Read on for one of the strangest food stories of the year...
Lucky Doritos Chip Found
13-year-old Rylee Stuart from Australia loves Doritos. So, a couple of weeks ago, she bought herself a bag - and while digging in, she felt something big. It was a huge, puffed-up version of a Doritos chip! "I was about to eat it, and I thought I better save it for later," Stuart told 9News earlier this week. So, like all young kids these days, Stuart took to TikTok to show the world her puffed-up Doritos chip. Soon enough, her followers told the young girl from Queensland to post the puffy chip to eBay and find out how much it's worth. After all, strangely shaped foods can earn big bucks on eBay and similar sites. For instance, a chicken nugget shaped like a character from the popular game Among Us recently earned $136,050 on the digital marketplace. It's true!
Listening to her follower, Stuart posted the chip to eBay with a starting bid of 99 cents. Within just a few days, it had already earned its way to five digits! "I saw $10,000 (on the listing), and I like screamed," Stuart recalled. However, as quickly as the listing appeared, it disappeared. Why? Well, Doritos Chief Marketing Officer Vandita Pandey saw the listing and the TikTok and decided to do something about it. She appreciated the teen's entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to give her a special reward...
$20,000 For The Puffy Chip
Doritos decided to congratulate the 13-year-old on her "boldness and entrepreneurial spirit," the executives of the company gave her $20,000! "It's been a whirlwind couple of days for Rylee and her family and we've loved following her story," Pandey said after granting girl with a gift. "We've been so impressed with Rylee's boldness and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family were rewarded for their creativity and love for Doritos."
Of course, now that Stuart has earned $20,000, her family wants a bit of the prize too! In fact, her father keeps teasing her, saying that he bought the pack. However, Stuart does not plan on giving in! "Dad is saying that since he bought the packet, it's his chip," the teen said with a smile. "But I ate the packet and found it, so I believe it is mine."
Stuart has undoubtedly made waves thanks to her incredible find. But, believe it or not, it's far from the most expensive piece of food ever sold on eBay. Previously, a Cheeto shaped like Harambe (the gorilla that was brutally shot and then became a meme) received $100,000. That's right!
